passing, easy as pie
this has to be the most offensive story i have heard this week...... what is the deal with virginia senator george 'georgie' allen. i'm not sure i really sympathize with the man "not knowing" of his jewish ancestry. if you ask me, this seems like another passing story to me.
(passing fyi: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passing)
hypo: can i wear a grocery bag on my head the next time i go shopping at tyson's? think anybody will notice i'm black and avoid following me down an aisle? think a brother can do the same thing the next time he's hailing a cab? oh! what about promotions - i'll start wearing my bag on my head and maybe i'll become a board room executive - my picture, with the bag on my head and all, will make it to the wall of fame in the boardrooms!
okay - i'm being silly, but truly - passing and BEING CAUGHT during campaign time is pathetic... i wanna feel bad for the man, but PUH-LEEZE welcome to reality... slap him on his ass and send him on his way.
all i have to say is that if you never thought that most politicians were full of it, check out this story:

"On Thursday, Allen acknowledged in an interview with CNN that he knew before the debate that his mother was raised as a Jew. He did not clarify why he said in the debate she was brought up Christian. "I'll tell you what I was thinking: I was thinking of my mother, I was thinking as a son," he said. "I wanted to protect my mother and her wishes and the promise that I made to her, and I am glad that she has now released me from that promise."
yeah okay...... are you following me on this here insanity Allen is speaking?
"Democratic blogs suggested that Allen was slow to admit his Jewish past because he was ashamed of it. Allen retaliated by accusing Webb's campaign of anti-Semitism, which it denied." bingo - you don't say!
Allen on race issues:
"But, while Allen may have genuflected in the direction of Gingrich, he also showed a touch of Strom Thurmond. Campaigning for governor in 1993, he admitted to prominently displaying a Confederate flag in his living room. He said it was part of a flag collection--and had been removed at the start of his gubernatorial bid. When it was learned that he kept a noose hanging on a ficus tree in his law office, he said it was part of a Western memorabilia collection. These explanations may be sincere. But, as a chief executive, he also compiled a controversial record on race. In 1994, he said he would accept an honorary membership at a Richmond social club with a well-known history of discrimination--an invitation that the three previous governors had refused. After an outcry, Allen rejected the offer. He replaced the only black member of the University of Virginia (UVA) Board of Visitors with a white one. He issued a proclamation drafted by the Sons of Confederate Veterans declaring April Confederate History and Heritage Month. The text celebrated Dixie's "four-year struggle for independence and sovereign rights." There was no mention of slavery. After some of the early flaps, a headline in The Washington Post read, "governor seen leading va. back in time

a NOOSE? a confederate flag is bad enough - but a noose..... western memorabilia - yeah okay...

allen on being CAUGHT being ignorant once again in 2006, during a campaign.... wow
A volunteer of Indian descent working for Democrat Jim Webb's U.S. Senate campaign said Monday he felt insulted when Sen. George Allen called him a name that sounded like "Macaca" during a rally in western Virginia.

okay. how in the hell do people know all these racial slurs!
I'm a true southern gal, so I know ALL about the trent lotts and other devils of the south but it seems to me that this guy could be a damned trent lott himself.
